Queen of the Kitchen’s Book Available for Dirt Cheap

One of my hidden hobbies is the culinary arts. I just love eating gourmet food and I love making it as well. From Keller and Emeril to Eschoffier and Lutece, I love them all. One of my favorite chefs, whom I borrowed heavily from, is Julia Child. The woman has an amazing story behind her. Did you know she was a spy? So cool. One of the first grand recipes that she worked on was the shark repellent used during WWII, keeping underwater U.S. bombs meant for Nazi vessels from going off accidentally. Anyway, the reason I’m posting about here is that I found “The Way to Cook” (ISBN: 0-394-53264-3), one of her best recipe books, on sale at Amazon and going for a ridiculously low price. I normally check this out from my local library, but when I saw a “Like New” copy going for less than 3 dollars plus shipping (like $7 all together), I simply couldn’t resist. After all, had I bought this book when it first came out, I’d be out $50-$65 plus shipping. I can’t guarantee that everyone will find a copy from the same ultra-low price, but if Amazon gets bought out, AllBookStores.com is a nice and useful search engine that will find a listing on several other similar sites.

The “Way to Cook” is different from the rest of Julia’s books. This one focuses more on cooking fundamentals and begins assuming that the reader has virtually no knowledge at all about professional chef techiniques and eventually walks you up to the point of being confident that you feel you can open your own restaurant. You will find everything here from how to make crème fraîche from scratch to how to fold egg whites into a cake batter the proper way. The recipes range from simple things like making a breakfast omlette to more complex things like reine de saba or braised trout. There’s definitely something in here for everybody.
